A Former Insurance Defense Attorney Now Fighting for Injured Montanans
For 17 years, Billings personal injury attorney Tanis Holm defended insurance companies and corporations. She learned how they operate and the methods they use to minimize and deny payouts to individuals simply trying to recover full and fair compensation for their injuries and losses. Now she puts that knowledge to work for clients, giving their cases leverage to settle efficiently and fairly.
That’s a valuable perspective most personal injury attorneys don't have.
Education and Legal Background
Tanis graduated with high honors from Butler University in 2004, earning a double major in Political Science and French. She then headed west to attend the University of Montana School of Law, receiving her J.D. in 2007.
She is admitted to practice before all Montana State Courts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana. Since 2013, Tanis has served on the Montana State Bar's Professionalism Committee, helping shape ethical standards for attorneys across the state.
Practice Areas: Standing Up for Injury Victims Across Montana
From her Billings office, Tanis represents injured Montanans throughout the state. Her practice focuses on cases involving individuals and families who have been seriously injured and need someone to fight for fair compensation.
Her areas of focus include motor vehicle accidents, truck and motorcycle collisions, medical malpractice, and wrongful death claims. She also handles sexual abuse litigation, banking and financial malpractice cases, and other areas where victims often feel powerless.
Alongside her fellow Yellowstone Law attorneys, Tanis works on a contingency fee basis. That means you pay nothing unless she wins your case. She offers free consultations because she believes everyone deserves to understand their legal options.
Why Clients Trust Tanis
Nearly two decades of courtroom experience have made Tanis a skilled litigator. Insurance companies know that when she files a claim for a client, she means business. Her readiness to go to trial levels the playing field against big corporations, but what truly sets her apart is how she treats the people she represents.
Tanis understands that behind every case file is a real person facing one of life's most difficult moments, whether that’s an injury, a devastating loss, or a betrayal of trust. She approaches every client with the compassion that reality demands.
Her clients aren't case numbers—they're people who need both effective legal representation and someone who genuinely cares about their outcome.
Committed to Community and Constitutional Rights
Outside the courtroom, Tanis dedicates significant time to pro bono work focused on protecting constitutional rights. She believes that defending fundamental liberties strengthens both individual lives and the communities we share.
Her community involvement includes service on the High Plains Book Awards Board and past board positions with Habitat for Humanity and the Yellowstone Bar Association, where she served as Treasurer from 2014 to 2017.
Rooted in Montana
When she's not advocating for clients, Tanis finds renewal in Montana's natural beauty. The outdoor opportunities, sporting events, and diverse landscapes of this state reflect the community she's proud to serve.
